PRESS RELEASE from August 16, 2023
IAA protest: Location found. Munich's mobility transition camp will take place in Luitpoldpark.
After much back and forth, we have now been assured of a location for the mobility transition camp by the district administration department.
After their successful protest in 2021, the volunteers of the mobility transition camp are planning another education and protest camp against the International Motor Show (IAA) 2023 in Munich. It is expected to accommodate around 1,500 participants from September 5 to 10. “For better planning, we wanted to clarify the location question for our camp at an early stage. We had already sought a discussion with the district administration department months ago, which enabled us to cooperate constructively,” summarizes press spokeswoman Vanessa Probst from the camp organization team. Initially, the Bavaria Park was chosen as the camp location by the KVR. However, this agreement was withdrawn due to previously unknown special conditions for the use of the park. “This reminded us strongly of the situation 2 years ago, when we were repeatedly prevented from setting up our mobility transition camp due to harassing conditions,” adds Probst.
“Instead, the red carpet is being rolled out for the car companies again. The city of Munich and our public spaces are being abused as a grandstand for the profit interests of the automotive industry,” explains Vanessa Probst and says: “The fact that it is so difficult to find a suitable place for our democratic protest is due to the sale of our meeting places to the IAA. That says a lot about the priorities of the state government and the state capital.” The mobility transition camp will offer a diverse alternative program to the PS show and its greenwashing. Activists, speakers and interested parties will find ways out of the fossil car trap and towards a mobility that benefits us humans rather than the shareholders of the car industry. “With Luitpoldpark we have found a central place for our camp. We will counter the IAA with our activism for a climate-friendly mobility transition in the city center, right next to the exhibition venues,” says Vanessa Probst, looking forward to September. The large demonstration on September 10th “#BlockIAA! Who is politics actually being made for here?!” will also start from Luitpoldpark at 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please contact Vanessa Probst on the telephone number: +491639329761 or write to us: mobilitaetswende_camp_muenchen@riseup.net
