IAA Protest: Activists are planning another climate protest camp against the International Motor Show in Munich

Basic rights must also be respected in Bavaria!

After their successful protest camp in 2021, the climate activists of the Mobility Transition Camp Munich are planning another camp against the International Motor Show (IAA) 2023 in Munich. It is scheduled to take place from September 5th to 10th and will accommodate around 1500 participants. The organizers are expecting protests this year to be as large as two years ago. Since construction work for the Oktoberfest has already begun on the Theresienwiese at the beginning of September, the camp will move to a city park this time. The coordination with the city’s district administration department is already in full swing. “The cooperation with the district administration department is very constructive. This time we have the feeling that they are really working on making the camp possible in the spirit of the fundamental right to freedom of assembly!” praises Vanessa Probst from the camp organization team. “But we don’t have a commitment yet.” The protesters are demanding that the police and the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior must also respect fundamental rights and are very concerned about the recent events in connection with the activists of the last generation: “Due to the house searches, arrests and surveillance of activists of the last generation, we fear that the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior and the police will try to restrict the right of assembly during the protests against the IAA,” says Vanessa Probst. “Nevertheless, we will set up our climate protest camp and take to the streets against the IAA. We will not be intimidated!” “For us, the IAA is not contributing to a mobility revolution. For us, a mobility revolution does not mean that corporations continue to make profits from selling cars - whether they have combustion engines or electric motors - but an end to car traffic as we know it,” explains Vanessa Probst. “A climate-friendly mobility revolution means that we need a form of mobility that is not based on the exploitation of formerly colonized countries for more and more cars. With our camp, we want to promote a different form of mobility and offer a platform to those who have ideas for a real climate-friendly mobility revolution. We strongly condemn the fact that car companies in Munich who trample on human rights are once again making central public spaces available for their climate-damaging propaganda!” Press contact: mobilitaetswende_camp_muenchen@riseup.net The following organizations and alliances support the demand for a central camp area in a city park:
